Hurricanes affecting the animal population

Published by mszdimples at 9:37 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

I receive e-mails from all sorts of animal organizations (e.g. the local Humane Society, WSPA-USA, ASPCA, etc) and there is one common thing I’ve been reading in the latest e-mails: how the hurricanes (Katrina, Gustav, Ike, and more to come…) are affecting animals.  These organizations are asking for monetary donations in order to help treat and save neglected, abused, and abandoned animals.  I personally love animals and I have donated money many times to a variety of organizations.  Reading about the animals makes me want to help out in some way other than just donating money, but how can I when I don’t have the right experience or a degree in an animal field?  I am just little young me, someone who cares and adores animals to pieces, but I feel so hopeless knowing I can’t do anything more to help.

On another note, there are many questions that I ponder about everyday: Why do people neglect and abuse animals?  Animals are such kind and loving animals if you treat them right… what did they ever do to their owners to deserve such treatment?  (Grrrr!)  Why do owners leave their animals behind in times of emergency?  I am very disappointed in those owners- you guys don’t know better? -shakes head-  Why do people buy or adopt animals only to figure out they cannot afford it or don’t want to care for them?  We’re human beings- we should know enough that animals are like children; they cost money for food, shots, toys, etc.  It is, indeed, like raising a child…but you wouldn’t dare abandon your child the way you do an animal, would you?  I doubt it.  Some people may, but I know that most people wouldn’t.  I swear- sometimes human beings don’t seem all that smart to me… Yell
